Alika Hope to play Hortense in the Kander and Ebb musical “Zorba”

July 27, 2016 By alika Leave a Comment

A slice of life on the Greek island of Crete will come to Bethlehem with the production of “Zorba,” the vibrant, Tony Award-winning musical.

Written by the highly successful team of Kander and Ebb, (“Chicago,” “Cabaret”) “Zorba” will be presented from Saturday to Aug. 14 at The Gary-The Olivia Theater, 249 Flanders Road.

The musical is based on the novel by Nikos Kazanzakis, “Zorba The Greek,” which inspired the popular film starring Anthony Quinn as Zorba and Alan Bates as the teacher/writer Nikos.

The role of Zorba will be played by Thomas Camm, most recently seen in the Clay & Wattles’ production of “Man of La Mancha” as Don Quixote; and Niko will be played by New York-based actor Maurio Hines, last seen as Pedro in “Man of La Mancha,” and in recent engagements with the Virginia Opera and the Glimmerglass Festival.

Madame Hortense will be played by Alika Hope, last seen as Bloody Mary in the Clay & Wattles’ production of “South Pacific,” and the role of Widow will be played by Sophia Sapronov, last seen as Thea in Clay and Wattles’ production of “Fiorello.”

Sets are designed by Woodbury artist Matt Wood.

Tickets are $28 and $35. Individual, senior and group tickets are available at thegarytheolivia.com, info@thegarytheolivia.com. For details, call 203-273-5669.
